Fuel and Lube Service Trucks

Service trucks, or Lube trucks as they are sometimes called in the industry, are vehicles equipped for dispensing lubrication and evacuating fluid from equipment located at remote sites. Open pit mines are especially dependent on these vehicles as efficiency demands that vital fluids be brought to equipment in the field rather than reduce production time by moving the equipment to the shop.

A typical lube-truck setup would be built on to a customer supplied chassis. It’s hard to say what a typical spec would be since we design and build to customer specifications, but most of the lube-trucks we build include multiple fluids. For example, a truck we recently finished was constructed on an F-740 Caterpillar chassis. Since this gives a lot of room to work with it was possible to install multiple tanks and dispense lines. The truck carried hydraulic oil, engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant, high pressure grease, a waste oil evacuation system and diesel fuel. For extra utility the truck was equipped with both cord and light reels.

The truck was also equipped with an onboard air compressor for powering the equipment and pumps. As with all Fireball systems the truck is equipped with thermal relief valves so it can operate in any environment and handle rapid temperature shifts without damaging onboard equipment or risking line failure.

The truck carries a FuelMaster fuel management system so that all dispenses could be automatically tracked and uploaded to a central database; even in the field. This allows the truck to follow large mining trucks out into an open pit mine and replace their fluids without having to take a production vehicle offline and to a maintenance shop while still maintaining accurate records of where the fluid is going and how much each truck is using. Keeping these kinds of records automatically and accurately is important as it allows problems with equipment to be indentified early by increased fluid consumption that is easily identifiable on reports.

For fuel-only trucks the fuel dispense system would be powered by a hydraulic sliding vane pump. The truck would be equipped with a FuelMaster system that would behave like a card lock system. Dispenses could be controlled via Pro-keys issued to the drivers, RFID’s attached to the vehicle or via a credit card based billing system. The Fuel would be dispensed by a specialty hose reel with dispense valve. The truck would also be equipped with a static grounding reel and thermal relief valves for safety in all environmental conditions.

Fireball Equipment Ltd. has extensive experience in constructing service trucks and works closely with both truck builders and end users so that the vehicles are designed and delivered to spec and on time.
